
Sophia Long
Sophia Long is the Director of Business Development – Polymers, a shared position between Greater Akron Chamber and Team NEO, where she leads efforts to strengthen and grow Northeast Ohio’s polymer, rubber, chemical, and advanced materials industries. In her role, she supports business attraction, expansion, and retention efforts while connecting manufacturers with the resources, partnerships, and opportunities needed to compete and grow.
Sophia works closely with manufacturers, economic development organizations, research institutions, workforce partners, and industry leaders across Northeast Ohio to advance the region’s position as a global center for polymers and advanced materials. Her work includes identifying growth opportunities, strengthening supply chains, facilitating strategic partnerships, and supporting initiatives that drive innovation and regional economic competitiveness.
With a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Sophia began her career as an engineer at several Fortune 50 companies in Aerospace, MedTech, and Oil & Gas. Prior to transitioning out of engineering, she supported the development of one of the first large-scale renewable fuel facility in the world. In 2023, she transitioned to economic development, where her technical expertise and strategic vision help support the region’s manufacturing ecosystem. Prior to her current role, Sophia led Team NEO’s Smart Manufacturing Cluster, helping manufacturers accelerate technology adoption and strengthening collaboration across the regional manufacturing ecosystem.
Additionally, Sophia has a strong commitment and track record of creating inclusive spaces for students in STEM and advocates for equitable opportunities in the manufacturing and innovation sectors.
