Capital Budget

As you may know, the State Capital Budget invests in local economic and community development and arts and culture projects when excess bond funding is available. This legislative process reflects the priorities of the Administration, the Ohio General Assembly and regional economic development partners in priority projects within their respective regions.

Over the last eight years, the Greater Akron Chamber has played a visible role in gathering and reviewing projects and providing funding recommendations for eligible requests from Medina, Portage and Summit Counties. The Chamber collaborates with the Administration and members of the tri-county legislative delegation throughout this process, which includes sharing all project proposals and related information that we gather, connecting them directly with project sponsors and providing funding recommendations for priority projects. The Chamber is uniquely positioned to assist the Administration and legislators in these efforts due to our direct and ongoing role in regional economic development activities and our ability to convene community stakeholders to prioritize projects. Eligibility determinations (in respect to state guidelines) and merit-based evaluations (as agreed upon by the Chamber’s Government Affairs Committee) go into the Chamber’s evaluation and prioritization process.

The Chamber has once again assembled a Capital Bill Task Force comprised of business, education, nonprofit and community leaders to perform the due diligence involved with executing the Chamber’s role in this process. Below are links to documents that you will need to review and fill out prior to submitting a project to the Greater Akron Chamber. Within these documents you will find an overview of the Chamber’s internal process and a questionnaire with various questions designed to gather all relevant information.

Please note: All projects being submitted to the Greater Akron Chamber must be submitted electronically in PDF format by Monday, November 4th at 5:00 p.m. to John Rizzo at [email protected]

Additional information is available upon request for project sponsors who have completed and submitted the attached questionnaire.

For questions, please contact John Rizzo, Director of Government Affairs, at (330) 237-1263 or via e-mail at j[email protected].
