Myers Industries Changes Mind, Opts to Stay in Akron

Akron Beacon Journal/Ohio.com

Myers Industries Inc. will be staying in Akron.  The plastic parts manufacturer and tire tool distributor on Monday issued a statement saying that executives have decided not to move the corporate offices to Cleveland, which would have taken about 120 jobs out of Akron. Myers in mid-September said it planned to move into 40,000-square-feet of space at North Point Tower near Lake Erie in downtown Cleveland.  The company’s statement reads:

“After extensive review and evaluation, we have decided to suspend our corporate headquarters and Myers Tire Supply (MTS) office relocation from Akron to Cleveland.  “When we first discussed the relocation several months ago, we felt it was a prudent business decision that supported our long-term strategy. Since then, we’ve determined that the costs associated with the move would be higher than anticipated and impacted our ability to create the open and collaborative space we envisioned.
