Peoples Services Promotes Manager

Peoples Services, Inc., a public warehousing, transportation logistics company, headquartered in Canton, announces the promotion of Adam Herman. Adam was named Director of Financial Operations in April 2019 and became a member of the Board of Directors as Treasurer effective December 19, 2019. Prior to joining Peoples Services in May 2017, Adam was employed at Koch Knight, LLC for eleven years as an accountant. He is a 2002 graduate of Kent State University with a BA in Accounting.

Valley Industrial Trucks now offering Aerial Lift Operator Training - Meet our Instructor

Valley Industrial Trucks provides professional Boom Lift and Scissor lift training by a JLG Certified Trainer in the Youngstown, Akron and Canton Ohio area as well as Western Pennsylvania. Our aerial lift training is designed to teach your operators safe aerial lift operation as well as the abilities and limitations of aerial lifts.  Mandy Forlina is our JLG Certified Instructor. She is certified to train scissor lift operators and boom lift operators on all makes and model aerial lifts.

Northeast Ohio companies with roughly $5 million - $15 million in sales and a desire to grow are encouraged to apply as soon as possible for the fourth cohort of the Scalerator® NEO program, as spaces are limited. This intensive, six-month program is a proven classroom and peer-to-peer learning experience that has helped over 200 companies in the United States and around the world achieve significant, top-line growth including 40 in Northeast Ohio. The 2020 program will run April - October in Akron at Bounce Innovation Hub.   The online application and program information are available at www.ScaleratorNEO.org.  Apply by March 1.

Save the Date (Aug. 1) for Stewart's Caring Place's 17th Annual Butterfly Gala

The Butterfly Gala is the most attended and largest annual fundraiser for Stewart's Caring Place (SCP). Held each year at a different home in Northeast Ohio, this unique event brings close to 500 supporters of the agency together for an outdoor, relaxed, and memorable evening complete with valet service, VIP cocktail reception, plated dinner, silent and live auction, dancing, and more. This year, the Gala will be held on Saturday August 1, 2020 at the Wadsworth home of Dr. & Mrs. Michael & Brandi Gangel and will honor Spirit Award winners Mr. & Mrs. David & Lisa Craine.

Greater Akron Chamber Unveils Inclusive Economic Development Strategy

The Greater Akron Chamber has a new strategy to help grow the regional economy as well as the organization. The “strategy blueprint” was unveiled Thursday night before about 900 people at the chamber’s 112th annual meeting at the John S. Knight Center in downtown Akron. The blueprint reflects the changes taking place in the area as well as in the chamber’s mission to help local businesses, Steve Millard, who nine months ago became the organization’s president and chief executive officer, said prior to the meeting. “We are laying the foundation for the work we need to do,” Millard said. “We can’t wait to write a perfect plan. You need flexibility in everything you are doing.” This new chamber initiative succeeds its previous Advance Greater Akron program. The plan incorporates significant parts of the “Elevate Greater Akron” program that the chamber, Akron and Summit County governments developed last year to help the region grow, thrive and include all residents in economic opportunities.

The Bowery is proof real progress is being made toward regionalism.  There has long been talk of the need for a regional approach to economic development in Northeast Ohio. However, in most cases over the years, regionalism has been easier said than done.

Small Business Outreach Meeting on Trade Agreements with Japan, European Union, and United Kingdom on Mar. 26

The U.S. Small Business Administration’s Office of Advocacy is interested in receiving feedback from small businesses and their representatives regarding their views on trade agreements being negotiated with Japan, the European Union, and the United Kingdom, and their experience doing business in these markets. The Office of Advocacy is tasked with producing a report to Congress evaluating the economic impacts of these trade agreements in negotiations regarding small businesses, particularly in the services, manufacturing, and agriculture sectors, as well as highlighting small business priorities, opportunities, and challenges. Advocacy is conducting outreach to small businesses across the U.S. to better understand important small business concerns regarding trade with these markets and how trade agreements would impact small businesses.

Keynote speaker will be Bill Benjamin, international expert on Emotional Intelligence and partner at the Institute for Health and Human Potential. Bill will speak on Using Emotional Intelligence in the Healthcare Professions. We will also welcome Dr. Eric Coleman of the Care Transitions Institute back to speak about caregivers using the principles of Emotional Intelligence. Dr. Ann DiFrangia will share updates on her work with the Cleveland Clinic Akron General Alcohol and Drug Recovery Center and how emotional intelligence can be used to improve outcomes. And...Of Course... No CARE Coalition event would be complete without a signature panel discussion. Continuing education credits for LSW/LISW, RN (via reciprocity), PC/PCC, and LNHA are available.
