Hale Farm & Village Presents Sow & Grow Farm Festival and Plant Sale on Jun. 8 & 9

Experience the past and present farming lifestyle of draft horse demonstrations, oxen talks, wheel plowing gardens, beekeeping and exploring the gardens on property maintained by the Great Lakes Brewing Company and the Bath Gamma Garden Club. The festival also features chicken keeping talks, sheep shearing, fiber dyeing and much more! June 8 and 9, 10 am – 5 pm.  The Citizen’s of Hale auxiliary group will be holding their annual Plant Sale. Special historic and heirloom annuals, perennials and herbs will be offered  Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children 3 – 12 years of age, and free for members.  

Hale Farm and Village Presents Made in Ohio Art & Craft Festival Aug. 30 - Sep. 1

Hale Farm will host the Made in Ohio Art & Craft Festival. This juried festival features over 160 Ohio artisans, local food, entertainment and all that Hale Farm & Village has to offer. Vendors include jewelry artists, potters, woodworkers, glass artists, soap and lotion makers, quilters and a variety of unique artisans. Celebrate Ohio! Enjoy history, shopping and eating while celebrating our great state!

Ken Hoyt named VP of Human Resources at Akron Area YMCA

Ken Hoyt has been named Vice President of Human Resources of the Akron Area YMCA, serving Summit, Portage and Medina Counties. Hoyt, who has spanned a career with the Y beginning with Camping Services and most recently, as the Director of IT, will be responsible for all HR functions, including Training and Development of staff

5th Annual Greater Akron Summit Business Conference & Expo on May 20 & 22

The Greater Summit Business Conference & Expo is a shared initiative by the County of Summit and City of Akron, and many others.  The event brings together small business, minority business enterprises, and corporations from across the State of Ohio to engage with corporations for the purpose of growth and development.

Attendees will be able to capitalize on numerous benefits from attending this event including workshops, the business-to-business trade show, and networking. Certified small businesses may also be eligible for contract opportunities provided by corporations as well as city and state agencies.

The Pitch Competition provides entrepreneurs and small business owners an opportunity to pitch their ideas to a panel of successful corporate leaders and business owners. The panelists will evaluate the participants business plan, ideas, and goals. The panelists will then make recommendations and assist where can.

Hale Farm & Village Presents Preservation Workshop: Wood Windows 101 on Mar. 30

Replacement windows aren’t all they’re cracked up to be. In fact, a historic wood window will last many times longer than its modern replacement if maintained properly over time. Robert Brookover, craftsman and owner of the Cohee Preservation Company, will demonstrate and discuss the many facets of keeping your historic wood windows in working order for decades to come. Please remember to bring your lunch pail. Founded in 2007 by Bob Young and his wife Tina, Young’s Auction Service is the Akron area’s prominent full-service auction company specializing in real estate, antiques/collectibles, firearms and weekly consignment auctions.   Young will be a licensed auctioneer and realtor with KIKO serving the Akron Metro area, including west to Medina/Wadsworth, south to Green/Barberton and north to Hudson/Cuyahoga Falls. He will focus on residential real estate, farms & land, commercial properties and quality collectibles. Young is also a Federal Firearms Licensee, helping clients liquidate firearms safely, legally and effectively.   Young and his team will continue to operate Young’s Auction Center, a facility located in Akron, Ohio that hosts quality consignment auctions every Friday at 6:00 p.m.

Small Business Outreach Meeting on Trade Agreements with Japan, European Union, and United Kingdom on Mar. 26

The U.S. Small Business Administration’s Office of Advocacy is interested in receiving feedback from small businesses and their representatives regarding their views on trade agreements being negotiated with Japan, the European Union, and the United Kingdom, and their experience doing business in these markets. The Office of Advocacy is tasked with producing a report to Congress evaluating the economic impacts of these trade agreements in negotiations regarding small businesses, particularly in the services, manufacturing, and agriculture sectors, as well as highlighting small business priorities, opportunities, and challenges. Advocacy is conducting outreach to small businesses across the U.S. to better understand important small business concerns regarding trade with these markets and how trade agreements would impact small businesses.

The Karcher Group Wins Awards for Work with Local Nonprofits

The Karcher Group (TKG), a full-service marketing agency, received two awards in the 2019 American Advertising Awards, a competition conducted by the American Advertising Federation – Akron (AAF – Akron). Commonly known as the ADDYs, the event recognizes the creative spirit of excellence in the art of advertising. TKG received awards at the district level, which included entries from Akron, Canton and surrounding areas, and are now eligible to compete at the national level. TKG received a gold award in the category of Public Service Online/ Interactive Website for its work on StarkHelpCentral.com. Working alongside Stark County Mental Health & Addiction Recovery (StarkMHAR), the team created a brand identity and a responsive, user-friendly web experience to resonate with Stark County teens, teachers, parents and caseworkers. TKG also won a silver award in the same category for its work on the United Way of Greater Stark County website. The Karcher Group crafted new messaging to help tell the United Way story, developed a multi-channel marketing strategy to get them noticed online and built their new website to roll out their updated digital identity.

Keynote speaker will be Bill Benjamin, international expert on Emotional Intelligence and partner at the Institute for Health and Human Potential. Bill will speak on Using Emotional Intelligence in the Healthcare Professions. We will also welcome Dr. Eric Coleman of the Care Transitions Institute back to speak about caregivers using the principles of Emotional Intelligence. Dr. Ann DiFrangia will share updates on her work with the Cleveland Clinic Akron General Alcohol and Drug Recovery Center and how emotional intelligence can be used to improve outcomes. And...Of Course... No CARE Coalition event would be complete without a signature panel discussion. Continuing education credits for LSW/LISW, RN (via reciprocity), PC/PCC, and LNHA are available.

Akron Men’s Basketball is making their final push in the Mid-American Conference! The final five home games at The JAR are loaded with premier opponents: - This includes a prime time matchup against arch-rival Kent State on ESPN U. - It also includes a marquee game against #18 Buffalo. - As well as MAC opponents - Bowling Green, Ohio University and Miami.
