CareWorks Comp is acutely aware that the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) is an escalating global health concern. In light of this, clients will need their support more than ever in meeting the needs of their employees. CareWorks Comp also recognizes that a widespread outbreak could place increased demands on their capacity to meet those needs. They are fully committed to maintaining all services critical to the welfare of their clients and their employees. Professional, Reliable Operator Training by Valley Industrial Trucks

OSHA requires forklift operator training for anyone that might operate a forklift. This extends beyond your normal operators to include anyone that might simply have to start a forklift for any reason. This could include managers, truck drivers etc... OSHA also requires: "All operator training and evaluation shall be conducted by persons who have the knowledge, training, and experience to train powered industrial truck operators and evaluate their competence."

METRO RTA Announces Free Fares Beginning Tuesday, March 17, 2020

METRO Regional Transit Authority is offering free fares for all services, including line-service, SCAT, Call-A-Bus, and Northcoast Express, beginning Tuesday, March 17 until further notice. “These are challenging times for everyone,” said METRO Executive Director Dawn Distler. “By offering free fares, we hope to alleviate the financial burden so many folks are unexpectedly faced with in the communities we proudly serve. We also hope this assists with the distancing challenges our bur operators face when interacting with passengers during their trips.” METRO will continue providing service, but passengers are being encouraged to stay home if their trip is not medically or otherwise necessary. All passengers are encouraged to follow the CDC guidelines to prevent the spread of germs, including washing hands often and avoiding close physical contact.

Save the Date (Aug. 1) for Stewart's Caring Place's 17th Annual Butterfly Gala

The Butterfly Gala is the most attended and largest annual fundraiser for Stewart's Caring Place (SCP). Held each year at a different home in Northeast Ohio, this unique event brings close to 500 supporters of the agency together for an outdoor, relaxed, and memorable evening complete with valet service, VIP cocktail reception, plated dinner, silent and live auction, dancing, and more. This year, the Gala will be held on Saturday August 1, 2020 at the Wadsworth home of Dr. & Mrs. Michael & Brandi Gangel and will honor Spirit Award winners Mr. & Mrs. David & Lisa Craine.

IBH Addiction Recovery Center 50th Anniversary Gala on Apr. 30

This event will celebrate 50 years of saving people’s lives! The Restoring Hope Award will be presented to the County of Summit ADM Board for their many years of support to IBH Addiction Recovery Center. Timothy and Aleta Killian and Dan and Sherida Pohl are serving as Honorary Co-Chairs of the Gala as they have been champions for IBH Addiction Recovery Center supporting us with their time, talents, and treasures. 415 Group Pledges $40,000 to Downtown Canton Plaza Construction

415 Group recently pledged $40,000 toward the construction of Centennial Plaza in Downtown Canton.  The plaza will cost $12.3 million to build. Funding is coming from taxes, the state of Ohio, and private donations from local and state leaders and community organizations. 415 Group contributed to funding since many employees and clients are based in Canton and the surrounding area. The new plaza will feature a covered stage, video board, café, fire pits, a “Canton” sculpture and more. The city has a 10-year agreement with the Pro Football Hall of Fame for programming, and the new event space should attract local residents and visitors from northeast Ohio.  Giving back and supporting the community is one of 415 Group’s core values. Throughout the year, associates donate over 3,000 hours a year to more than 30 different organizations in communities where they live and where their clients operate

Summit Brew Path Holiday Knock-Out Tour Hosted by Life Is Good No Matter What on Dec. 14

Complete your Summit Brew Path passport just in time to meet the December 15 deadline while supporting the mission of Life is Good No Matter What. Guests will meet at a central location (parking garage in downtown Akron, Ohio) and celebrate life today with tastings, give-a-ways, making new friends, and enjoying every stop along the way.

Guests will be transported to each of the 22 Official Brew Path stops to receive a free 2-ounce sample in their comemorative glass (44 ounces total!), stamp their passport and make any additional purchases to commemorate their experience. Each of the 22 stops will conclude after 20 minutes, for a total of 7.5 hours of craft beer adventure.

Tickets are $100 donation each with a limit of 50, first-come, first-served. Each ticket includes: charter transportation to all official brewery stops, commemorative Life is Good No Matter What 2-ounce tasting glass, 64-ounce stainless steel growler, a 2-ounce sample at each of the 22 breweries (44 ounces total!), and an official Summit Brew Path completion form. All paid guests will receive detailed information regarding parking, transportation, logistics and stuff that is fun. All proceeds support the mission of Life is Good No Matter What, a 501(C)-3 Non-Profit Organization.

Kim’s College of Martial Arts to Host 40th Annual Peacemakers Charity Exhibition on Nov. 9

This year, the exhibition features a board-breaking “Break-a-thon,” which will support Life Is Good No Matter What™ (LIGNMW), a charity serving cancer patients throughout Northeast Ohio. Over the past eight years, this event has raised nearly $100,000 for Northeast Ohio and Medina charities. Open to the public, this event will also include raffle prizes and a bake sale. Jessica S. Forrest Joins Cleveland Office of Reminger Co., LPA

Reminger Co., LPA is pleased to announce that Jessica S. Forrest has joined the Cleveland, Ohio office of Reminger Co., LPA. Jessica focuses her practice on matters involving probate litigation, trust disputes, estate administration, and estate planning. Prior to joining Reminger, Jessica worked at a small general practice firm in Akron, Ohio, working in the areas of estate planning, probate and trust administration, real estate, general civil litigation, small business law, and personal injury matters. 

Kent State University at Stark Presents Guitar Weekend on Oct 31 - Nov. 2

Kent State University at Stark will present Guitar Weekend, a three-day festival for guitar enthusiasts.  Free and open to the public, the event is a celebration of all styles of guitar playing and features some of the most respected guitarists nationwide.  Organized by Professor Erin Vaughn, lecturer of music and coordinator of guitar and studio ensembles at Kent State Stark, Guitar Weekend is in its fourth year and blends a series of guitar workshops and concerts during the three-day span. This year’s event features guitarists who have performed with Van Morrison, Norah Jones and more. 

Akron Zoo to host Ghost Tours on Oct. 31

The Akron Zoo is hosting the second annual Ghost Tours featuring guided tours of the zoo, led in partnership with Team Spectre, a leading paranormal group in northeast Ohio. The guided ghost tours, which begin promptly at 6:30 p.m., will include legendary ghost stories filled with historical facts about the zoo and its ghostly residents. The event also includes up-close animal encounters. Tickets are on sale now at akronzoo.org for $15 per person. AAF-Akron Presents Fourth Annual Holiday "Merry Mingle" Charity Networking Event on

Visit Santa before he gets too busy! Join AAF-Akron, AMA NEO, NSME and PRSA Akron for our annual holiday networking event to benefit Boys & Girls Clubs of the Western Reserve. There will be food stations, cash bar, 50/50 raffle and a gallery  of kid club art for sale.  $10 cover charge.  Event is open to all.  You do not have to be a member of any of the hosting organizations to participate.  Registration deadline is November 15.

2019 ATHENA Leadership Awards Dinner

ATHENA Akron, Inc. will honor the 2019 ATHENA Leadership Award Recipients and Finalists at a dinner and awards program. The event recognizes exemplary women leaders for their professional achievement, community involvement, and for actively assisting women in reaching their full leadership potential.

This year’s Leadership Award recipients will join more than 60 local women leaders who have been honored as recipients or finalists of this important award. Recipients to be honored with the 2019 ATHENA Leadership Award include Traci Buckner, Executive Director, Akron Children’s Museum; and Grace Wakulchik, President and CEO, Akron Children’s Hospital.  Award finalists to be honored include Tina Boyes, Executive Director, Kenmore Neighborhood Alliance; Pamela Kiltau, Vice President of Private Wealth Management, Baird; and Pamela Wright, Partner, Sikich LLP.

The recipient to be honored with the 2019 ATHENA Young Professional Award is Erin Victor, Director of Engagement and Events, Focal Point, and Founder, Akron Snow Angels.  Award finalists to be honored include Kimberly Huff, Community Relations Representative, OMNOVA Solutions Foundation; and Antha Poleondakis, Investment Associate, Merrill Lynch.
