University of Akron Interim President John Green to Kick Off DriveIT's New Speaker Series on Aug. 30

Akron-based DriveIT — the information technology skills training company founded by former Software Guild leader Eric Wise — is teaming up with the Greater Akron Chamber to help teach leadership skills.  The two are launching a monthly series of events called [email protected] that will feature area civic and business leaders talking to live audiences. The events will also be archived online for the public.

The series will kick off Thursday, Aug. 30, with a presentation by The University of Akron Interim President Dr. John Green: "SurrealPolitik: Leading a Medieval Institution in the Modern World."
This event is free and open to the public at DriveIT's offices at 755 White Pond Drive in Akron.

However, due to limited seating at DriveIT, the events will be co-hosted and live streamed to an on-campus audience by the EXL Center at The University of Akron and will remain available at DriveIT's website, DriveIT said in announcing the series.

DriveIT already hosts a monthly series of speakers that addresses business technology issues. It said in a release the new series will address themes of leadership, innovation, vision and engagement — thus the L.I.V.E. in the series' name.

"This is a really exciting project for us, as engaging the business and academic communities in one single monthly event will attract a brilliant cross-section of people to DriveIT," said Ian Schwarber, DriveIT's co-founder and chief strategy officer, in a statement. "DriveIT was designed to make an impact on the thought leadership of Northeast Ohio, as well as on the skill development and talent retention we need to advance as a regional economy."

Doors open for the first event at 5:30 p.m. for refreshments and networking, with presentation starting promptly at 6 p.m. Seating is based on a first-come, first-served basis, so participants are encouraged to RSVP on Eventbrite
