Chamber Announces Tia Ramlow as Incoming Board Chair

AKRON, Ohio – Today the Board of Directors of the Greater Akron Chamber elected Tia Ramlow, President of Great Work! Employment Services as Chair of the Board.  It is expected that Ramlow will serve through March 2024 in that role. Ramlow was elected the Chamber’s Chair-elect earlier this year and is moving into the organization’s top leadership role sooner than expected due to the retirement of Grace Wakulchik, President and CEO of Akron Children’s Hospital who was serving as the current Chair of GAC.

Ramlow’s firm, Great Work! Employment Services, is a leading Northeast Ohio employment services firm.  Ramlow brings experience as a business leader, entrepreneur and community leader to her role as Chair of the region’s 1,800+ member economic development and business support organization.   In the twenty-seven years of Ramlow’s leadership, Great Work! has grown to become a team of twenty-seven employees in eight offices across Northeast Ohio, posting consistent annual growth and delivering world-class service and support to both her business customers and the employees her firm has placed.  Consistently delivering and exceeding her annual growth goals,  Ramlow attributes Great Work!’s success to its ardent focus on company values, an unending commitment to best-in-class customer service and consistently taking care of the needs of her customers and team.
Ramlow has been an active leader in Greater Akron and is committed to supporting the region’s success.  In addition to the Chamber, Ramlow is involved with the Ohio Chamber of Commerce, the Advisory boards for EDGE and Huntington National Bank, and a board member for Summit Education Initiative.
Steve Millard, President and CEO of the Greater Akron Chamber is excited about the opportunity to work in support of Ramlow in her role as Chair.   “We are fortunate to have an accomplished and involved business owner and community leader like Tia agree to step into this role for our Board.  As an entrepreneur and community leader, Tia understands the challenges our region’s business owners face and has been a great contributor to the work the Chamber has done over a number of years as Chair of our Small Business Council, Chair of our Finance Committee and an active member of our Executive Committee.”  Millard continued, “Tia has also led at a statewide level as the Chair of the Ohio Chamber’s Small Business Council.  Her perspective and experience with business issues in our state and the day-to-day experience of running a growing middle market company make her well-suited to lead the work we have ahead at the Chamber.”
Ramlow is enthusiastic about the work ahead, noting “I am honored to be elected by the Board to serve as its Chair and appreciate the work the Chamber has done in the last few years to support our businesses through difficult circumstances.  I am excited about the plans we have to do more to drive the growth and success of our region’s businesses and our community. That growth creates jobs that support the families and people that call Greater Akron home – underlining why regional growth is really important work for all of us!”

U of A CBA Business Analytics Innovation Summit

There is no doubt that the Business Analytics (BA) revolution (or hype?) continues at a blistering pace, with machine learning algorithms now taking their place as the "magical" technology of the day. While the initial fears about knowledge worker replacement have abated, many are wondering just how well their decisions can be "augmented" by their pal, the algorithm. And companies are amassing huge lakes of unanalyzed data just in case there are some gems amidst the dross.

Back in the trenches, business must do what they have always done: identify the right problem, gather the right data, perform the right analysis, and make the right decision.

The focus of this year’s Business Analytics Innovation Summit will be on decision–making. How has the use of Business Analytics (BA) changed the way your firm goes about deciding what to do? Specifically:

  • How do you decide what data, and how much data to collect? How long do you keep it, and in what format? What surprising things have you learned about data management in the past few years?
  • How do you prioritize what problems to try to solve using BA? Have you created new governance mechanisms? What makes the BA era different? Is BA just another element in your IT portfolio, or is it managed separately?
  • How do you choose which analyses to do? And how do you ensure that the decisions these analyses recommend are actually carried out in practice? How do you evaluate the risks that come with offloading a certain portion of the decision to a machine?
