What is the background story of your business? When/how was it created?
Sinclair Creative, LLC started as an overarching brand that I used to express myself. I have experience in visual art, fashion, and editorial photography. I went to Kent State University and graduated in 2016 from the fashion program where I did many photoshoots for fashion design students. I assisted with makeup for student projects, worked as a costume assistant and dresser for many Theater and Dance productions, and worked as a production assistant through my internship in New York City. I wanted to take all of my creative passions and put them in one place. My mother brought in the event planning side because she does party and wedding planning for people. I have always been her assistant at events running around, putting together centerpieces, flower arrangements - you name it! She is a very type A personality so she is happy that I look at things in a more creative and unconventional way. 
In 2017, the event business was created. I started off with brand launches for local people and businesses. Currently, I do a lot of birthday parties, bridal showers, and baby showers with my goal being to get more into the wedding industry. I offer traditional party planning services from “dream to theme.” I want to make our clients’ dreams become a reality and make sure they are a guest at their own events. We do everything from booking vendors, securing locations, full execution and day-of coordination.
One service we have started to offer throughout the pandemic is virtual party planning. I remotely help lay out everything they need. I give them a list of vendors, caterers, etc. in a portfolio and they can execute it themselves in a remote way. If they themselves are having a virtual event, I am still able to help them with their big day.

How has your business experienced growth?/How do you expect to see growth?
Northeast Ohio has a large wedding market so I hope to tap into that. My clientele has grown because of what I do. My minor in school was costume design so I received a lot of creative exposure. I was my mom’s creative and was the person to put together everything in-house. I use my theatrical side a lot for party planning.
I always think, “what can we do to push your event over the edge to make it stand out?” My clients appreciate that. I thrive on the crazy ideas, I love a challenge, and I like to experiment and try new things. I’m currently working on cloud lamps for a client to use as centerpieces. Pushing the limits has given me a different type of clientele and I love it!
As my business evolves, I have really tried to advertise it more. When I first started, I
was trying to be everything to everybody. It’s helped me fine-tune what my vision and brand is. It’s the next level of event planning.

How has the pandemic impacted your business?
I had to change my business strategy almost completely. We all can say this is unprecedented. No one was prepared for this to go on 7 months after the fact. I thought I would be planning parties by June. It was one of those wake up calls that this isn’t changing. Instead of looking at it as a defeat, I took the time to really fine-tune my business. Through the MORTAR program at Bounce Innovation Hub, I have been able to really focus on some of the key elements that I think I glazed over just being eager to start my business. MORTAR helps us with not only starting a business, but training them to be sustainable businesses. If there is a way to bring fun activities to people virtually, that is what I want to do and when people are ready to gather together again, I want to be the first person they call.
How has the Greater Akron region played a role in the evolution of your company/career?
 I’m one of those people that love our city! We have so much potential and there are
already so many people working, doing, dreaming and building the things they want to do in Akron. It’s small, but it’s big and there is opportunity out there. You have to be in the right place and make yourself available. I grew up here and are a part of so many organizations. Akron has sewn so much into me that I want to give it back. I want to partner and work with people that not only support me, but believe in the future of Greater Akron. I want to make opportunities available for other people as well. When the time comes, I want to be able to be a mentor for someone else coming up like I am.

Do you have any advice for growing a business in Akron?
My advice is to open yourself up to help. I am an alumni advisor for The Mayor’s Youth Leadership Council, formerly The Akron Peacemakers. I gained hands-on exposure to the inner workings, preparation, planning, and execution of public events acting as an event manager in training for The Teen Expo. The Teen Expo was an annual event hosted at Lock 3 Park for young people to gain insight into community resources, enjoy food, games, and live entertainment. One thing I’ve learned through my experience is Akron is bigger than you think. The help is out there, you just have to ask. There is a quote I love: “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.” Not originally said by Oprah, but by Roman philosopher, Seneca.
With the pandemic, we had to take a step back, slow down, and reset. A lot of people
are using this time to go after the goals they want to achieve and things they've wanted to do. I didn’t think I’d ever get picked for the MORTAR cohort. Believe in yourself and put in that application! Keep in touch with people not just for your business, but for your mental health.
