Job Summary

The Vice President, Opportunity and Inclusion will work in consultation with the leadership of Elevate Akron on the development, implementation and oversight of the inclusion strategy for Greater Akron. Based on the findings of the inclusion narrative, this person will work closely with the corporate community and community partners to increase awareness of the business case for inclusion and will create a system that fosters and supports inclusive growth in the region. This person will be responsible for the day to day driving of the inclusion strategy for Elevate Akron. In addition, this person will work with leadership at the Greater Akron Chamber and the City of Akron to develop and implement inclusion strategies and best practices for those entities.

Job Description



Inclusion Strategy Development

  • Support the Elevate Akron strategic plan by leveraging the business case for inclusion and the findings from inclusion narrative to develop and implement a long-term, comprehensive inclusion strategy for the Greater Akron region.
  • Support the inclusion efforts and strategy at the City of Akron.
  • Work to ensure cultural competency across the Office of Integrated Development at the City of Akron.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive inclusion strategy for the Greater Akron Chamber.

Community and Business Leader Engagement

  • Represent and communicate the inclusion narrative in the community and ensure the inclusion ‘lens’ is being applied across all strategies in the Elevate Akron strategic plan.
  • Support the work of the Greater Akron Chamber’s Economic Inclusion Committee.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with diversity and inclusion professionals and stakeholders within the region, including those individuals who represent diverse perspectives that can be engaged in the implementation of Elevate Akron and other initiatives.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to bring inclusion discussions to the forefront, raise awareness of the business case for inclusion in the public and private sectors, and engage the business community in inclusion-related initiatives.

Ongoing Support and Sustainability of Inclusion Initiatives

  • Work collaboratively with community partners to identify and apply for project funding opportunities to increase awareness of the importance of inclusion in the region and to support the Greater Akron Chamber’s inclusion initiatives.
  • Conduct research regarding economic inclusion and diversity management best practices to inform and support the inclusion strategy.


  • Bachelor’s degree, preferred in business, human resources, communications, or related field
  • 10-15 years of experience
  • Experience working in diversity and inclusion a plus
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written and communication skills
  • Experience working with, supporting and leading task teams and committees, especially as a peer leader or leader among volunteer leaders in a civic, charitable, or association setting
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently
  • Strong project management and planning skills with a focus on attention to detail
  • Excellent judgment and diplomacy skills
  • Ability to think creatively and take initiatives from concept to implementation with minimal direction
  • Proven ability to convene and lead individuals and groups
  • Comfort in navigating and resolving conflicts arising from differing opinions with the goal of reaching a consensus or closure
  • Strong aptitude with computer programs essential to business communication, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and other Microsoft Office programs)
