Job Summary

The Project Manager, Elevate Greater Akron will provide project management support for implementation of the strategy. This role will work across all aspects of the strategy providing project management and facilitation support as well as ensuring a seamless operation with respect to the meetings, events, and logistics associated with the execution of the Elevate Greater Akron strategic plan. This role will also assist with communication efforts, measurement of metrics and milestones, and the preparation of materials for discussion and review during initiative-based meetings and community presentations. Elevate Greater Akron is the newly adopted economic development plan for the Greater Akron area. This plan is the product of a first-ever collaboration between four entities (the City of Akron, County of Summit, Greater Akron Chamber of Commerce, and the GAR Foundation) who came together to create a transformative, high-functioning and collaborative economic development system for Akron. Each entity, in addition to other key partners and stakeholders, plays a unique and critical role in the execution of this is plan. The Greater Akron Chamber’s role in this effort is to serve as the ‘collaborator general,’ working to ensure effective execution and coordination among all players in the plan and, generally, in the ecosystem. The Chamber is also on-point for key initiatives in the plan, including inclusion, research, and serving as the launchpad for new initiatives arising from this plan.

Job Description


Essential Functions:

 

Elevate Greater Akron Strategy Team and Working Group Support


Each component of the Elevate Greater Akron strategy has at least one corresponding team of stakeholders who drive the work and the direction of that area. These teams meet regularly to advance the initiative and ensure the appropriate work is being completed.
  • Oversee the coordination and activity of the strategy teams and working groups associated with the Elevate Greater Akron strategic plan, including scheduling meetings and managing logistics
  • Ensure a consistent experience among community participants in the Elevate Greater Akron work via templates for agendas, minutes, PowerPoint presentations, charters, etc.
  • Oversee the schedule of meetings related to Elevate Greater Akron to ensure they are happening at the right frequency and that they are spaced out appropriately
  • Maintain an ongoing, updated roster of those participating in the Elevate Greater Akron work
  • Provide support to the leaders of the strategy teams and working group by taking notes, drafting minutes, creating PowerPoint presentations, and assisting in the preparation for upcoming meetings, where needed
  • Act as a utility player for strategy team leads and other Elevate Greater Akron leaders by providing capacity to advance key initiatives and projects as part of the plan. Additional capacity could include tasks such as conducting small-scale research, drafting one-pagers, facilitating connections, creating presentations, compiling lists, analyzing demographics, etc.

Elevate Greater Akron Communications Support


The Elevate Greater Akron strategy is regional and thus has many stakeholders, including individuals, corporations and organizations who have an interest in monitoring our progress, metrics, and impact. It is imperative to clearly communicate the plan’s initiatives to these stakeholders on a regular basis.
  • Support the development and implementation of an ongoing communications plan to keep key stakeholders and the community overall informed of the progress made in the Elevate Greater Akron strategy
  • Maintain an updated library of resources related to Elevate Greater Akron work, including PowerPoint presentations, one-pagers, executive summaries, research reports, etc.
  • Increase awareness of key Akron initiatives by creating a process to identify and catalog new stories about projects, business successes, etc. to be shared with the community
  • Work with partners to develop and implement

Elevate Greater Akron Metrics and Milestones Support


The impact of this plan must be able to be communicated with movement on metrics and accomplishment of key milestones. Developing the specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and timely metrics and milestones will be a critical aspect of the success and value of the plan.
  • Support the work to identify and monitor metrics and milestones associated with the Elevate Greater Akron initiatives
  • Assist in the development of a process to monitor progress of the metrics and milestones on an ongoing basis
  • Assist in the development of a strategy to provide ongoing updates to the strategy teams, key stakeholders, and the community about the progress of Elevate Greater Akron initiatives, including a dashboard, infographics, etc.

Greater Akron Ecosystem Support


Greater Akron is rich with organizations who have an interest in supporting the ecosystem of economic development. The Chamber’s role is not to ‘own’ the ecosystem, but rather to facilitate the resources for the business community and ensure ecosystem partners are engaging regularly and working together to support the needs of our members and community stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities to facilitate connections and dialogue around key topics relevant to the community and manage the logistics associated with events and meetings designed to drive discussion within the community
  • Assist in the efforts to enhance the connectivity among key organizations within the Akron and Northeast Ohio economic development system, including the development of an ecosystem map  

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferred in business, communications, public policy, or related field
  • 4-6 years of experience in a professional environment preferred
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written and communication skills
  • Experience managing projects and programs that involve individuals outside of the principal company or organization
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently
  • Strong organization skills
  • Strong project management and planning skills with a focus on attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask
  • Excellent judgment and diplomacy skills
  • Ability to think creatively/outside the box
  • Strong aptitude with computer programs essential to business communication, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and other Microsoft Office programs)
